Tiffany is not only a voracious reader and an exceptional performer but a professional writer and editor. Tiffany earned her MA in Transformative Language Arts and continues her quest to use her word-art as a facilitator of social commentary and change through community involvement in her hometown area of San Diego. In her first book of poetry, Ugly Drawers, Pretty Panties, published by A Word With You Press, she shares verbal vignettes of dreams, experiences, perspectives, and people. She’s been a part of the San Diego Book Awards since 2015 and is honored to lead this local organization of scribes and readers. Tiffany is also a Kingdom Writers Association Vision Lead, a member of ASCAP, The National Forensics League, and a writer and editor for blogs and online magazines.

She’s the quintessential Renaissance Gal.



Sylvia Melena is the Founder and CEO of Melena Consulting Group, a leadership and management consulting, training, and publishing company. She is also the award-winning author and publisher of Supportive Accountability: How to Inspire People and Improve Performance.  Sylvia’s leadership philosophy has been featured by the Society of Human Resources Management HR Today, the Human Performance Association, LEADx, Entrepreneur, My Quest for the Best, Fit Small Business, and other outlets. Sylvia has a Master of Arts in Leadership and Organizational Studies and spent nearly 20 years in the trenches of management of health and human services.





Monett Hereford comes from an accounting background and is honored to bring her talents and time to the San Diego Book Awards Association. She serves on the Board of Directors for multiple organizations and has a vision for nonprofit success. Monett has made it her business to dig deep and hold her boards to the highest standard of excellence and accountability.


Walter L. Dutton has a wealth of experience he uses as part of his resources for crafting nonfiction and fiction. He has been a USAF air traffic controller, police officer, lawyer, judge and arbitrator, and a professor of literature and writing. His first published work was a science fiction short story written when he was a sophomore in high school. He holds a Juris Doctor degree and an M.A. in Literature and Writing – while earning his M.A., he received the prestigious Calif. State University, San Marcos, Presidential Graduate Deans Award. As a Literature & Writing lecturer, he was one of very few to receive unanimous outstanding student evaluations from three classes.

His published works include five separate works for the Harcourt, Brace & Jovanovich education division, four family history works, a memoir and will soon be published as a fiction author in the criminal procedure area. He first served on the Boards of the SDBA in 2002 and presently serves as a Board member, judging chair, and judge. He is a member of the National Writers’ Union and there serves as an advisor for contract negotiations. He enjoys reading and studying the many varieties of writing available for the SDBA and provides advice for writing improvement to new authors.
