The San Diego Book Awards extends their condolences to the family, friends, and the San Diego writing community for the loss of Susan Vreeland who passed away on August 23.
“Nobody brought art and artists to life like she did,” said Julie Slavinsky from Warwick’s bookstore in John Wilken’s obituary of Vreeland in the August 2 San Diego Union-Tribune.
In a 2014 interview in the Union-Tribune, Ms. Vreeland gave wonderful advice to authors, “Writers have to be observant. Every nuance, every inflection in a voice, the quality of air even–they all get mixed up in this soup of the story developing in our minds. We can’t ignore these little intuitions, because sometimes that’s where you find treasures.”
And, as Susan McBeth of Adventures by the Book said in Vreeland’s obituary, “We’ve lost a literary treasure.”
